Philosophy
I believe any and all green space holds value- whether it's a gorgeous garden, a public park or even a overgrown, forgotten industrial site. These all have habitat and wild to offer.
I feel joy at seeing plants pushing through cracked concrete in the heart of a bustling city, or growing in the mortar in an old brick wall; it's a reminder of how humans and plants are meant to live amongst each other. Also of how resilient and forgiving nature is.
People are becoming more and more aware of how important green space is to us. We’re learning that access to gardens, parks, and natural landscapes isn’t just a luxury—it’s essential for our physical and mental wellbeing. Studies show that spending time in nature relieves stress, lowers blood pressure and cortisol levels, improves sleep, reduces depression and can decrease the risk of chronic disease. Even simply having a view of a tree or greenery outside your window can provide measurable health benefits supporting mental restoration and reducing anxiety and depression. With this in mind, I’m passionate about helping people discover the true value of their gardens, ensuring these spaces are seen as sources of joy and inspiration, never as a maintenance burden.
I always design gardens with wildlife in mind, and strongly believe we can co-inhabit a garden space perfectly together, without sacrificing style or beauty. There are certain aspects or characteristics in a garden that appeal to wildlife and these can be included in any and all garden styles, regardless of the garden's aesthetic or where plants originated from.
My commitment to sustainability guides everything I do, from material selection and environmental impact to soil health. I design with a focus on organic gardening practices that foster a balanced ecosystem in the garden where all components thrive, without the need for outside intervention. This starts with a deep understanding of each site. I take the time to observe and analyse every garden, often visiting at different times of day to truly appreciate its unique qualities—where the sunlight falls, where the shade lingers, the perfect spot for an afternoon cup of tea or morning coffee, or the best view from indoors.
No two gardens are the same, and I never use a one-size-fits-all approach. By considering soil, climate, aspect, and microclimates, I select the right plants for the right places—ensuring they flourish effortlessly and draw you out to enjoy your garden every day.
About me
I have always had an interest in the natural world and a love of gardens. After realising I could turn this passion into a career, I completed a Certificate 3 in Horticulture and continued the Landscape Design Diploma in 2013 at Urrbrae TAFE.Since then I have spent many years maintaining and designing gardens and gaining a broad range of horticultural expertise and plant knowledge. I find this experience invaluable when it comes to creating beautiful, but practical outdoor spaces. My favourite gardens are full of flowers, interest and seasonality. It brings me joy to see wildlife thriving in gardens I've created and how much diversity they encourage. I also love my kitchen garden and being able to grow fresh produce for my family to enjoy gives me such pleasure.
